"Why YASim? YASim uses the geometry of the aircraft to generate the base flight characteristics. While this suggests a 'realistic' or out-of-the-box approach, it is a only rough approximation that will require much tweaking before you get a result that approaches realism. Contrast this with JSBSim which relies on pre-generated tabular data to build up the flight model. If you have solid flight data for your aircraft such as wind-tunnel data or you are looking to eventually generate a hyper-realistic simulation, JSBSim is probably a better approach. If you lack such data but know the geometry of the aircraft and have access to the same flight characteristics and limits as a real pilot would, then YASim can provide a solution that is more than sufficient for most simulation needs."

My point all along.

I have indeed tried both, and YAsim is alot simpler, alot less complex. It requires less fine tuning then JSBsim, granted, but are any of the high quality JSBsim aircraft using only data created by Aeromatic? No! I know this for a fact having assisted Dwayne and Narendran (redneck and Omega95) in FDM testing, as well as their helping me.

Sure there are more YAsim aircraft then JSBsim, and there are to main reasons for this.
Number one: You. You seem to through your support behind YAsim, undoubtedly because you use blender to model an aircraft exterior, then use the YAsim script, and release. You wouldn't see this with an aircraft made with JSBsim, where one spends hours fine tuning their FDM to get the absolute best results. I too, have looked through both types of FDM, flown using aircraft that use each of them, and JSBsim, IMHO, is miles ahead. Remember that JSBsim is under constant development: YAsim isn't.
aaaand Number two: When new aircraft developers come to the field, they'll often go for the simpler option: YAsim, as it requires less time and can therefore focus on other things, such as top notch cockpits. (please take the hint here, too)

I've flown all those aircraft, the IAR80 is by far the best developed in the list (in terms of its amazing detail), with the F14 a close second.

As to your saying YAsim needing more skill; I dispute this highly. It isn't. One can make an aircraft, use the YAsim script and presto manifesto have an FDM, a similar system to JSBsim's Aeromatic. With your aircraft, the FDM clearly doesn't see anymore of your time, whereas Narendran would continue for hours on end after generating a basic FDM in Aeromatic.

JSBsim is not outdated, it's always being developed. YAsim is outdated, because it isn't being developed anymore. Maybe there's a reason they stopped. (hint hint)

Cheers,
Sam.

Please note that JSBsim is less common simply due to the fact it is alot more complex to create. IMHO, JSBsim is alot more complete and allows better realism in flight dynamics, whereas YAsim feels alot more like a toy. It doesn't feel real. Certainly some of your planes, helijah, that (nearly) all use YAsim, feel weirdly unrealistic to fly.

Some of FlightGears most realistic aircraft use JSBsim, including: A320neo, A330s, 787, ERJs and the new ATR-72. Obviously there's still realistic YAsim aircraft (namely the 777 family) but they're a little bit few and far between.

Sam.

ah Good to know, thank you Emmanuel.

Edited the first post to include my A320-family FDM work. big_smile

Cheers,
Sam.

Thanks Emmanuel, I apologise now that most of my posts will be English. Unfortunately I only know VERY minimal French, due to a short trip to the Frech territory of Nouvelle Caledonie last year.

I may end up using Google translate, but I don't see myself making too many posts on this forum.

Anyways...
Cheers,
Sam.

Hello there,

I'm guessing this section of the forum is for introducing one's self, so here goes;

Name:
Sam Clancy

Callsign:
VH-VOZ,
MIA0004 (for Merlion, of which I am president) and,
FG-AUS (when filming for my YouTube channel, flightgearaustralia)

Operating bases:
YBBN- Brisbane International Airport, my local airport. (not the closest, YRED is the closest, but is GA only, and I don't fly GA as much as airliners)
ELLX- Luxembourg Findel Airport, one of my favourite airports in FG.
YWLM- RAAF Base Williamtown/Necastle Airport (shared facility), I lived in Newcastle for 10 years and I also consider this my "local" for that reason.
LOWI- Innsbruck Airport. I don't think I have to say why.
OMDB- Dubai International, great spot for hops in an airliner. I've flown many a flight to OMAA (Abu Dhabi) but Kuwait, Bahrain, Doha, Riyadh, Tehran and Baghdad, all major cities, aren't too far away in a large jet wink

Experience:
Approx 700hrs for Merlion Virtual Airlines
Approx 15hrs, combining other virtual airlines in FG that I've flown for
Approx 250hrs independently
Approx 6hrs on mine and a friends Round the World flight (is incomplete, check the Multiplayer Events forum at the FG Forums)

My creations:
LYPG- Podgorica Airport, serving the city of Podgorica in Montenegro.
ATR-42- Liveries and major tester.
Airbus A330-200- officially released by TheOmegaHangar, projet started by me, fair amount of development by me. Latter versions primarily made by Narendran ("owner" of TheOmegaHangar)
Airbus A350-900- not released yet. Exterior 3D model is complete. Malik Guest (tehwarlock) and I are working on a realsitic cockpit and realistic systems. Will utilise some code from the new 787-8 by Omega95, Redneck, Thorsten, Hooray, Jentron et al. for the EFB and CDU.
The Brisbane Project- A major long term project undertaken by FlightGear Australia and Malik Guest. "FGA" is me, Lachlan Bruce (spitfirebruce21) and Drew Gibson (usually VH-TIT, is not involved on any FG forum) that will bring the whole city of Brisbane (and closely linked Logan, Redcliffe, Caboolture, Pine Rivers and Ipswich cities/shires) up to a standard higher than Paris. With models for ALL major landmarks, generic houses, accurate terrain, (hopefully) photorealistic terrain, and accurately made OSM roads for all the major arterials.
Liveries: plenty of them. Not all are placed for download, and many get lost on my computer. (It gets hectic) Check them out at http://www.flightgearaustralia.yolasite.com along with other things I have made.
Updating of the Airbus A320-family FDM- originally only for the A319-131 for a video, now incorporates ALL aircraft in the family.

What I can do:
Fly. wink No experience at Nasal, not too good with XML, alright at 3D modelling. I want to learn more though so I can contribute more to the FlightGear project.

My dreams:
In Queensland, Australia (each state has a different education system) you get an "OP" or Overall Position when you finish school, from 1 to 25. The OP you receive determines what kind of courses you can do at univeristy, the lower the number the better. For more advanced degrees, such as Law (OP2 at the highest rated uni in the state) or Med School, OP5 depending on course, you'll need to perform very VERY well.
I wish to become a pilot, there are 2 uni's offering the degree in the state. I need an Op12 to get into the Bachelor of Aviation at Griffith University, 4 years with honours and a Commercial Airline Pilots License with me. As you'd guess, I want to be an airline pilot, preferably in Europe some place.

Ways to contact me;
Search Sam Clancy on Facebook, I'll be the guy with an iPod in front of me with a baby on my shoulders living in Brisbane, Australia wink
Add the.names.sam on Skype.
Comment, rate, favourite, subscribe to http://www.youtube.com/flightgearaustralia.
If you see my callsign on MP, come join me.

This is all I can think of at time of posting.

Cheers,
Sam.

Yes thats right, a business jet. There aren't that many done well in FlightGear, and those that are are all in Cessna's Citation family. (i.e. the Citation X and Citation Bravo)

What I would like:
Bombardier CL-604 including cockpit. For this, the CRJ-200 cockpit could be used as they are the same IRL, from what I gather.
Bombardier CL-605 including cockpit. This could include code from the 787-8s (new version by Omega95, Redneck, Thorsten, Hooray, Jentron et al.) for the EFB that was not present on prior versions. But apart from that, likely could use some similar elements from the cockpit. Essentially the -605 and -604 are the same, although the -605 has SLIGHTLY larger windows (only structual change) and a slightly improved cockpit which incorporates better avionics, and as said above, includes an EFB.
Top notch, but easy to use paintkit. I've got some liveries planned already wink namely:
CL-604: Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) No. 34 Squadron RAAF, Royal Danish Air Force (RDAF) 721 Squadron.
CL-605: Hornbill Skyways, Hong Kong Government Flying Service

Cheers,
Sam.
